About KAMI-LEGACY

From great shrines to roadside stone Buddhas: KAMI-LEGACY reads the origins and legends of sacred places across Japan with AI, grounded in photos of on-site signboards, the map and the records of the land, and keeps them one story at a time in a digital book of origins.

How a record is made

  1. PhotographA signboard, carved characters, the look of a small shrine. One photo, on the spot.
  2. TranscribeThe board's text is copied character by character and kept as a primary source. Unreadable characters stay unreadable.
  3. ReadAI reads the text against the map and the records of the land, and weaves the place's background into a story, even where there is no signboard.
  4. BindEach story becomes a page in your book and a red dot on the map. Every ten places, a chapter of your own arrives.

To the world

We are making these Japanese records readable in English. The signboard text stays in Japanese as primary evidence, and every AI translation is labelled as such.

These digital origin stories are not the official histories of any shrine or temple. They are another reading, by AI, grounded in signboards and carved text.

Digital origin stories are unofficial readings by AI, grounded in signboards.
